Are you looking for short-term or annual travel insurance for special sports? Allianz Global Assistance offers you several options. You can easily insure extreme, adventure, and special sports here at the most favorable premium and excellent conditions!
With the annual travel insurance that includes coverage for special sports and winter sports, you can also choose the extra extensive ‘Sports Equipment Coverage’. Additionally, you can insure ‘Accidents in Special Sports’.
What are special sports?
Special sports are sports that carry more than a normal risk, such as hunting, mountain climbing, rock climbing, abseiling, caving, bungee jumping, kite surfing, skydiving, paragliding, hang gliding, ultralight flying, and gliding. Winter sports also fall under special sports.
Note! Recreational diving, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and sledding are automatically covered in a travel insurance policy from Allianz Global Assistance. No extra coverage for ‘Winter Sports and Special Sports’ is required.
Who is Allianz Global Assistance?
Allianz Global Assistance, with 16,000 employees, is the world’s largest assistance and travel insurance provider. The Dutch branch of Allianz Global Assistance is located in Amsterdam. In the Netherlands, they provide medical assistance to over 1.5 million Dutch people and breakdown and accident assistance for over 2.5 million cars.
Special sports are not automatically insured
Do you already have (annual) travel insurance with another insurer? Check your policy terms first. This will tell you which activities are covered and which are not. You may need additional coverage. Always check your policy if you plan to do sports during your vacation or trip. Dangerous sports almost always need to be insured separately, so keep that in mind if you already have annual travel insurance or are taking out travel insurance.
Current travel insurance does not cover special sports?
Does your current annual travel insurance not cover special sports? Then you can insure this risk through Allianz Global Assistance, for example with a short-term travel insurance with sports coverage. You must take out this insurance for the entire holiday, including the days you do not plan to do sports. It may be cheaper to cancel your current annual travel insurance and take out a new annual travel insurance with sports coverage with Allianz Global Assistance.
Short-Term and Annual Travel Insurance for Special Sports
Are you going rafting, abseiling, or caving, for example? Allianz Global Assistance offers you the following options for travel insurance with coverage for special sports:
Do you occasionally do sports within Europe?
Then the Adventure & Survival Insurance is the most suitable. This short-term travel insurance includes liability, accidents, and medical expenses (not suitable for winter sports).
Adventure & Survival Insurance
This special travel insurance for extreme sports, among others, is cheaper and provides better coverage than a normal travel insurance with sports coverage. It offers extensive coverage for your sports equipment, standard travel accident coverage, and even liability coverage.
The premium is very favorable at just €1.80 per day, you are insured throughout Europe. This includes SOS costs (search, rescue, repatriation, and assistance), medical expenses, accidents, and liability!
An Adventure & Survival Insurance is better suited if you plan to do sports during your vacation. Additionally, a normal standard travel insurance does not provide sufficient coverage for special sports that carry more risks such as winter sports, air sports, mountain sports, and water sports.
You can also opt for a (short-term or annual) travel insurance with extra sports coverage. But then you are not yet insured for accident coverage and liability. With an Adventure & Survival Insurance, you take no risks while doing sports. This insurance is also suitable for extreme and dangerous sports and covers, among other things:
- SOS costs;
- rescue costs;
- repatriation;
- replacement transportation and accommodation;
- damage, loss, or theft of luggage;
- accident coverage;
- medical expenses;
- liability coverage for the participant(s).
The insurance is specially designed for people who engage in special sports during their holiday in Europe. Think of activities such as skydiving, mountain climbing, rafting, abseiling, and hang gliding. But this travel insurance is also suitable for adults and children who go to a survival camp or have booked an outdoor weekend.

Tip: We always advise adding Medical expenses coverage. Your health insurance does not always cover all medical costs abroad. Are you going on a winter sports holiday? Health insurers do not always cover the costs of transport by “banana” or helicopter to the nearest hospital. With the Medical expenses and Winter sports coverages, you are insured for this.

Money and travelers’ checks are insured against loss and theft. The insured amount per policy is €750.
Automobile assistance insurance
The Automobile Assistance Insurance provides coverage in case the driver or the vehicle or trailer fails due to breakdown or accident. The insurance provides coverage only in Europe. The insurance is not valid within the Netherlands unless the trip through the Netherlands is part of a trip from the Netherlands to a foreign destination and vice versa.
